------Several looks were shot his way, but for the time being, he did not say a word. If they really had a problem, they could try to talk to him about it later. Being the first to make contact was not his style--Gabriel had been an exception. If nobody wanted to waste their time on him, not only would he not mind--he would prefer it. At this point, he was content to observe them all carefully, taking special notes on what they were doing. Gabriel appeared in control of his mate, at least at a first glance. One just sort of sat there dumbly, seemingly oblivious to the happenings around her. Odd. Another male also stayed back, but he seemed more alert or annoyed. Two males moved off nearby and watched from afar.
------Before too long, they reconvened and Gabriel delivered their ranks. Sensibly, Gabriel and his mate seemed to be the leaders. His eyes followed Gabriel's gaze as he addressed each of them in turn--their names would necessarily stick. Obviously, he stood out like a sore thumb. If they knew his name (which he rarely gave out), it was only fair for him to know theirs. Sharp as a tack, he registered each face and title in the back of his mind. Every time a new name was introduced, he would go over the list in order once more in his head. When it came to his rank, he nodded to Gabriel, then went back to his memory game. He would have time to think about his duties later--he already knew that he would enjoy them. They occurred naturally to him and he would probably practise the tasks whether he had been officially assigned them or not. After a few more rounds of match-the-face-and-the-name, Gabriel let out a shrill warning call--ahh, it seemed as though the leader had read his mind. Well, that would certainly be a unique technique for keeping the masses in line, he thought to himself, a joke for him alone. Quickly, he threw back his head and added his own powerful voice to the call. Even now, his eyes remained open as he stared up into the sky. Peripheral was still available, as always when in the presence of others. For some time, the coyotes of Inferni would be under his observation just as much as the wolves that were settling nearby.
