Though the fathomless feeling of worry still clouded her mind, her mother and sister, Amata, had shared their hope with her. She felt a bubbling of something akin to warmth, even standing ankle deep in the chilly snow outside of the mansion. The dark hallways were beginning to suffocate her and no matter how hard she tried, she could not help but walk past Artemis' room ever few hours hoping to find a hint of change. The presence of her family made it just bearable, but even sunny Parker could not stand against the darkness forever. So here she stood on the cobblestone paths, breathing in the cold air and staring out of the gate to the endless white beyond.

The only clothing she'd managed to grab on her way out the door was her scarf; a gift from her mother. It was orange and beige knitted together in a square patterning. It hung around her neck, and down her chest. Her hands were dancing over the edges, fingertips running over the coarse feeling of the yarn as if trying to memorize it. A smile was playing lightly on her lips, ears lying casually against the curtain of hair that was hanging freely down her back.

But no matter how content she felt, she could not shake the eeriness of the silence that seemed to blanket Crimson Dreams. Denali should be shouting, running and playing with Artemis. Her mother should be laughing. Her sisters acting silly and giggling like schoolgirls as they chuck snow at one another. Parker frowned then, fur bristling as a shiver ran down her back. She turned and walked back to the expansive porch and sat down on the steps, humming a soft song to herself.
