Why does it always rain on me

Somehow it seemed as if the open door was miles away, and even after he had his arm around Halo, Silas could not seem to breach the relative security of the hallway. It wasn’t until they finally managed to maneuver out of the disaster of white that Silas realized it was in fact Halo’s blood that had stained the floor. He could tell that she was favoring the foot that had not been injured and his grip tightened around her waist, silently signaling that it was okay for her to bear more of her weight onto him. He wanted Halo to know that he would always be there for her if she ever needed him. Did she realize that?

Her words were soft, and Silas titled icy blue to find those rubies he so loved. He hated to see the hurt in them that was apparent now. Her sanctuary had been destroyed and he couldn’t even comprehend that. Meanwhile, the wind was howling just a ferociously as it had before, and as Silas cast his gaze back towards her doorway, he watched as the dusty white had continued its way after them. It was as if the storm didn’t want to settle with the fact that they had been able to get away from its grasp; as if it was chasing them. "I know," he cooed, though he hadn’t known. After all, he had been secure in his room when her walls had come crashing down. Why couldn’t it have been him?

"Are you alright, Halo?" Ice moved from the harmony of crimson and cream, to fall to the floor in search of her injury. However, her hand moved from her side and beckoned his, wanting to receive the small creature he still held in his grasp. He had almost forgotten about it, but easily held out his palm and handed the rat over. He knew that she was worried and upset about her pet, but Silas was worried about her. "Your foot, does eet hurt much? A second later, though, he wished he could revise his words. Did he seem cruel for not asking her about her pet? Ice went to the damp ball of fur, brows furrowing in curious concentration. "Do you theenk eet vill be okay?"

Now that they were relatively safe in the hallway (or so he hoped) Silas wanted to bring Halo away and into his room, so he might set her in the armchair and take a good look at her foot. Somehow he wasn’t sure what to do. She longed for her rat, so he would give her the chance to look over him. Perhaps after she would let him look at her wound. For now things were alright, for the girl he loved dearly was at his side and she would be alright. Despite its best efforts, the storm had not robbed him of the Inferni princess.

Though he was not consciously aware of it, the young Russian’s mind was already turning the cogs. If the girl’s room had been destroyed, where would she find refuge now? He would entertain thoughts of her staying with him later, but for now the boy’s attention was focused solely on her.
