The man nodded, remembering the young child that he had found by the borders. She had offered him names of her parents that were nothing but affectionate nicknames they had used with each other. The loner suddenly seemed weary. Conor knew better than to further unsettling her. So the parents had told her to look here. Why had they not returned? The war was over and there was nothing more to fear. How the young male would have appreciated the return of the former queen. But no, another child had been sent here in their place, and he could not help but wonder why this was. Perhaps there were better places to live than here. ”Are Cercelee and Slay your parents?” the male asked, their names falling smoothly from his tongue.

Conor had been disappointed in the way the former Alphess had abandoned these lands, though he did not know the truth of how things had been. He did not know of the blackmailing and threats made by his mad father. ”Why didn’t anyone come for her sooner?” To lose a child had to be excruciating.
