The sole reason why the other managed to come at him without meeting the boy’s defense at the last moment was that the Anathema child would never have expected an open attack from a canine considered adult in such a style. Warriors from Inferni had sold motivation to force his body to become cold and still, but the scents that met him were not claimed by any particular alliance. Sunsets had turned and widened as they witnessed the hostile canine charge, and as the other wolf came close enough to terminate all doubt, the boy moved. And meanwhile the little animal beneath continued to howl.

The boy let his upper body toss to the side until it met the ground, twisting in pursuit of avoiding damage. The sword that once had been his mother’s was quickly grasped by a tense hand. This would be his first battle, and he did not even understand what had inspired the other to make such a bold move. Itachi failed to see the connection between the wolf’s actions and the screaming animal squeezed beneath his crouched form. They were predators; those below in the food chain would always lose and be devoured by those above.

The other was too close for him to swing the katana and do damage, so the boy made use of the only weapons he had: the cat like claws that the other lacked. Letting claws aim at the stranger’s face, it was the dangerous fangs of the loner that he was most intent on avoiding.
