This was proof that an injured wolf could be dangerous despite carrying serious wounds. He had been told a story once that even a wolf’s severed head could turn on its enemy and bite. Perhaps there was something more to the rotting heads on sticks lining up Inferni’s territory. The wolf’s meaty body was not there to retrieve a second taste of the crimson tainted blade this time, and had instead chosen to roll out of its way. Itachi moved accordingly, finding time to evade the unkind teeth that sought for his ankle. He owned none of the swift elegance that he had seen his mother wear when she practised with others, but he already knew some of the basics of fighting well enough to know that he always had to pay absolute attention to his opponent and remember to use every part of his body.

While his heart and soul did not scream to punish the older wolf, the continuous aggression made him more eager to leave more marks of maroon upon his skin. He had been unjustly attacked and was more than willing to return the favour. But Itachi was more wary now, knowing that the other was still intent on battling him until he turned cold. The katana was lighter than more solid blades of western design were, and it was not a hard task to let it linger between the two forms. While his own injury pained him, the slash in the side of the other wolf was more serious. If anything, Itachi was a very patient creature, and if it would be to his advantage to outlast the other, it was not a sacrifice.
