Not expecting an outburst from Jace, Temo blinked at her as his heart skipped a beat. As she disappears under the log, he sat down as his brain processed what she said. He didn't know what to say, never having anyone say they loved him. His heart raced. Then, like running full tilt into a cliff, what she said hit him: "father my children". It left him speechless. It was something he never expected to hear from anyone.
It was several minutes that he sat there in thought and not knowing what to say or how to say it. He felt something stirring deep in his gut. Something that he hadn't felt for a long time when he finally accepted that females didn't want him for a mate and pushed the fatherly feelings deep into dark recesses of his mind and forgot about them. Slowly, as he thought about what she hurriedly said before hiding in her den, the feelings of happiness surfaced and brought some tears of joy to his eyes. He had never dreamed that his dreams of having someone at his side for the rest of his life would come true.
His thoughts were interrupted bye the sudden realization that she was waiting for an answer. A lump of nervousness rose into his throat as he thought maybe she changed her mind because he took to long. He brought the log into focus and could just see her hiding under it. It looked like she was trembling while she hid, while she waited for him to give an answer.
The lump still caught in his throat, one ear almost all the way back and the other about half way back, Temo whispered "Yes." That giving him the courage he needed, he stood up and slowly approached the log, more and more of Jace coming into view as he closed the distance. At the entrance to her den, he lays down and pokes his head in so she can hear him. With quiet nervousness and nervous pauses, hoping with all of his heart that she doesn't change her mind, he replies, "I had felt a connection when we first met. A connection that seemed to have grown stronger as we traveled together. A connection that I found to be love for you. A want and need to remain in your presence. A desire to be at your side to the ends of time."
His thoughts failed to bring words to his mouth at that point. Not knowing what else to say, Temo declares to Jace with a little more volume, "I love you, too." Pulling his head out of the entrance and sitting down with quiet nervousness, he waited to see what she would do. His body trembling slightly from the nervousness and his pounding heart.
