Word Count → 512 :: SLOW

All of the books were thick, with tiny words and letters printed into some incomprehensible language. She began to feel rather hopeless as she sifted through them, lifting one and opening it up, only to find herself completely unable to read the text within. The sable-shaded woman put them aside after only sifting through three or four of them, reclining back against the cool stone wall and shutting her eyes. This was something Sirius could not teach her -- she did not even think to ask him. It was embarrassing enough he knew of her inability to hunt; thoughts of telling the male more of her shortcomings and failures filled the Tuyul with an odd sense of dread. She was damn useless and she did not want him to know; she did not know how Larkspur did not figure this out. Then again, she had provided a valuable sort of service to the man -- she had birthed his children into the world, which was something other women could not claim. She had raised them, too. Perhaps that was her use where it came to Larkspur, and perhaps he was perfectly content with that. The thought was comforting -- she had come to a reasonable conclusion as to why Larkspur valued her, and it certainly made sense.

The sable-shaded woman would have leaped at the chance to have more children -- her blood mixed with Larkspur's wolfishness had produced children that were wholly wolf, and they would be raised in this pack as wolves, knowing the truth of their heritage. It would be impossible for them to join Inferni, and the hybrid hoped if they eventually chose to breed, it would be with a wolf. The thought that they might choose a coyote for a mate and reintroduce that dirty blood into her family after she had worked to keep it pure and to keep her children in the perspective of wolves quite nearly infuriated her, distant as that possibility was. They were only a few months old even now -- a long way off from even noticing others in a sexual manner, let alone reproducing with them. The sable-shaded hybrid leaned forward and opened her eyes, surprised to find another had entered the room during this time. She had been wholly absorbed in her thoughts, ignoring the rest of the world.

Her yellow-green eyes fell upon the youth, studying his torn and ragged face. There was no fear or disgust displayed on the woman's face -- instead, pity reflected briefly across her face at the sound of the whine, and she motioned for him to come closer. “What's the matter” she asked, sliding over so he might join her on the jutting piece of stone where she sat. “I haven't seen you around here before. Do you play with my children? Wretch, Pandemic, and Salvia?” she asked, thinking perhaps this was one of their playmates. He appeared a fair bit older than her own children, though the coal-hued woman did not think this mattered so much when it came to children.
