Her anger had not diminished at all, but she was isolating herself still, more than she had been isolated during her long slumber and the weeks that followed. It was safer that way; she was safer that way. No… Everyone else in the pack was safer that way. Artemis could feel the anger coursing through her blood, the sounds of it pounding in her ears. She was so close to snapping; she had multiple times. Each time, she pulled back in one herself and hushed those feelings, bottling the emotion deep inside. It was not healthy, but she felt safer that way. She had snapped at animals and birds without provocation, and she wanted to stay away from everyone she loved. The young silver girl did not want to snap when she was around her family. It was not like her to spend all of her time alone, but it was safer for everyone around her.

It was common knowledge in the pack now that Denali had been murdered by a woman who then joined Crimson Dreams, but Artemis did not believe it. There was no way that her best friend and brother could be dead, murdered after he had run away because of her accident. Denali was not dead. He would come home soon, the young Marino knew. Maybe he had just wanted to go look for his birth parents or to go on an adventure. Artemis hated the idea that he was gone and having fun without her, but the idea was much more ideal than the one the pack seemed to have that he was dead. He could not be. Denali would come home soon and everything would be normal again. The frail girl threw a stone into her reflection on the lake with all of her might. “He’s not dead!” she yelled at the rippling image of the silver Dreamer. Denali simply couldn’t be dead. It didn’t make sense.
