The lake had always been one of Cypress' favorite places. Anu had brought her boys out on several occasions to play along lake shore and splash in the shallows when they had been younger. Where he learned that trying to catch frogs often ended with a nose full of water. Though the lake had lost much of its charm once the seasons turned colder. The frogs disappeared, and many of the birds as well. Once it's surface froze solid and he could no longer even just sit and watch the ripples cross its surface caused by the wind he hadn't bothered to visit it's shores at all. This winter season had been full of turmoil and torment for the pack of Dreamers. The days were becoming longer again, and warmer. With the return of all things green and the migratory animals that had vanished he hoped they would bring back the simpler times he remember from his puppyhood. When Crimson Dreams had been known to him as nothing more than a safe haven. A place he though safe from such misfortunes as those recently suffered.

He had become lost in his thoughts as he had walked along the shore. He had quickly concluded that the frogs had returned yet; the waters still far to cold for the amphibious creatures. So he was caught complete by surprise by the near by splash caused by the stone Artemis had chunked into the lakes mirrored surface followed by her voice. He stood still, frozen in his tracks and unsure what he should do. He felt like he was intruding, knowing that if it were him, he would wish to be alone during such a moment. He was feet from her, but should he say something? Let her at least know he was standing there or would she be upset that he had witnessed the scene? Everyone knew Denali was dead, that evil Nuki had even admitted to it from what he had heard. "Its not you fault, you know." He had finally come to the decision to speak and took a few more steps to shrink the gap between them.
