The approach was not missed, as the dappled silver girl had grown more alert and aware of her surroundings in recent weeks, catching the slightest movement or sound as it happened. She did not turn to look at the son of her mother's best friend as he came closer; she had nothing to say to him or to anyone else. Artemis was doing everything in her power to avoid speaking to anyone or interacting with them in any way, for fear of hurting them in some way. The turmoil beneath her skin frightened her so, and she did not know what she was capable of. Physically, it was not likely to be much, given her continued weakened state, but she knew sharp words clung to her tongue and the roof of her mouth, waging war on her teeth to let them past the only barrier stopping them.
Suddenly, though, the silver-painted girl turned sharply. Eyes that were once such a soft baby blue to match her father's, now a hardened and angry gaze of cerulean, narrowed as she looked over the boy that had spoken to her as if... as if he knew anything. Cypress dared to say something like that? "What isn't my fault?" she snapped sharply. If he was like the rest of the pack, he believed Denali to be dead. Artemis seemed to be the only one who would not fall for such wretched lies spilled from the maw of a twisted female who only wanted to cause harm with the lies she spread like the flames of the strongest fire.
