Ever since the snow storm Cypress had been wondering if winter was ever going to come to an end. It hadn’t taken long for the world of white and gray to become boring and drab to the curious boy. Tired of the short days and long hours of darkness that left him little time outdoors. He wouldn’t miss the biting, cold winds either. He longed for the days when the grass would be green and his mother’s gardens would be full of life again. For the frogs to return to the lake, as well as the birds his masked brother had so loved to watch and mimic their calls.

Spring was close though, he could feel it. He could see it in the green shoots of grass brave enough to push through the receding snow. Some days it even felt as if spring was finally here. Only for winter to remind them that he wasn’t gone just yet, the next day. Slowly but surely, the days were becoming longer and longer again. Sooner, rather than later, it would be spring.

The day would come eventually, when the endless blanket of snow would melt away for the last time that winter, but until then Cypress would have to make do with what he had. And for the moment he had found the next best thing to laying under the shade of a tree on a hot summer day. The sun had managed to find it’s way out from behind the curtain of clouds that was the gray and dreary winter sky. Laying out on the front porch of the Manor, he did his best to soak up ever ray that he could. The dark colors of his pelt soaking up the heat of the sun. When he closed his eyes he could almost fool himself into thinking it was summer. There was probably other things he should have been doing with his time, but oh it felt so good and warm.
