She felt bad for yelling at Pixie the day before, for the woman had been upset by Denali's supposed death as well, but Artemis could not help it. The woman had dared suggest to her, as so many others had, that her best friend and adopted brother was dead. Artemis was the only one, it seemed, who was not fooled by such wretched lies. Her self-instated isolation was not going as she had planned, but she was losing her ability to care. She did not want to think about those she had yelled at already, those that did not deserve the anger she had shown them. All that she wanted was a mere moment of peace, time to think of something else. A distraction would be necessary; she needed one. Artemis needed something to focus on to push away the anger bubbling over within her.
The dappled silver girl stretched in the early morning light, the first tendrils of the sun's rays just barely touching the earth on the horizon. Hardened blue eyes, a storm of thunder hidden in each, surveyed her surroundings. The lake was beside her, and seeing her small frame adopting its natural four-legged form was strange at best. Artemis had not shifted since before her accident, as she had fallen in her two-legged form and she had awoken in it, as well. She had not changed herself until now, and it had been difficult. Her frail body was growing weaker and weaker, though it should have been an opposite process. It was as if she were wasting away and she could not do anything to stop it. Artemis looked around her warily, desperately almost. She wanted a way to escape the anger she was feeling, the anger that had troubled her now for longer than she cared to admit. It was a feeling akin to no other; the anger, as well as the desperate search for something more, pained her.
