Slade was glad that the murderer had been caught, though he was surprised to hear that the culprit wasn't Arwen. It was clear that the other Luperci had only been mad, but not a mad killer. He wouldn't be the one to push on the subject; whoever Argul was or had been, judging from the way Skye had spat out his name, Slade had been fortunate enough not to meet them. The small coyote was relieved to hear that he wouldn't have to be looking over his back every time he heard a twig break or a leaf fall, nor would he even have to consider asking anyone to be a bodyguard--the thought had crossed his mind for a short while every so often, but he had dropped it just as quickly as it had come up; the most suitable canine he could think of was Jaden, and he still wanted to rip the prejudiced loner to shreds.

As Skye went on, it was clear that they both wanted to let the subject drop. She addressed the reason for the stench. Slade didn't really know anything about how plants grew, just that they needed water and sunlight; he wondered if a canine as a lupus had an enhanced sense of smell, because he would never want to grow one of these stinking things. What was its purpose, anyway? He was certain that prey was made the same way animals were made, not out of the ground; and while he knew little about the shifting canines, he was fairly certain that they did not eat plants.

"Well... that's interesting," Slade managed; it was the best thing he could come up with that didn't plainly show he was still repulsed by the garden's smell. Despite the fact he would rather have nothing to do with them in the future, curiosity got the better of him and Slade figured he might as well ask the question that was now on his mind. "So... what are gardens for, anyway?"
