Skye's answer was straightforward enough. Yes, canines were omnivorous, but Slade still wondered why one would purposely want to stink up their land with a garden. He wasn't going to push the topic any more at this point. It would just lead to more confusion, more questions, and possibly nagging Skye with those questions like an annoying puppy. The coyote knew that he had a tendency to do that when there was a topic that interested him, in one way or another. He remembered his short conversation with Shawchert, which he had managed to keep up because of his interest. In this case, he had no interest in gardens and found it would be useless to talk about them.
Slade was silent after that, glancing up at Skye, wondering what was going through her mind. It might have made it easier to come up with something to say if he knew what she was thinking about. As he looked at her, though, he couldn't help but notice something was certainly different about her, which he hadn't noticed at the pack hunt. First it was Valinta, now Skye; did everyone in this pack have some kind of romance going on? There was another thing he would never understand: why would anyone want to have puppies? He must have been alone in his opinion of "puppies are stupid".
Still, he didn't want to be rude; if Skye wanted to be a mother, that was her choice. It gave him a topic to bring up, anyway. Speaking a bit hesitantly, he said, "So... congratulations on the pups." Usually this was followed by "Who's the lucky father?", but Slade had a feeling that he would have no idea who that male was, either. He was terribly out of touch with his pack. It was at times like this when he wished that he hadn't gotten so used to the lifestyle of a loner.
