Ethereal voice, lead me onward.

Bahahah.. so I heard you like fears, so I put a fear in your fear..

If there was ever a time Malachi wanted to understand the spirits in the world, it was then. The shaggy female grew up learning about how the souls of loved ones departed, but pieces of them remained in different natures. Wind, for one, was not just a gust of air rattling the treetops, or pushing the currents of the river on.. no. It was a voice, of sorts, a reminder. More often than not it came at the right moment, to act as a guiding spirit.

And it was this strange voice that drifted in the air, then, but when the wind died down, the voice remained. and came in as clear as a bell. Short, round ears caught the call of desperation, and eyes snapped to attention to the creek. In the distance, something was wiggling - and it didn't look like any fish, either. Another light gust of wind blew towards her, and then the strange thing came closer.

"A pup!" She blurted aloud, suddenly forgetting her own troubles which led her to the clearing to begin with. The large beast waddled to the edge of the bank, but skidded to a halt, staring wide-eyed into the frightening, deep waters before her. Turning her head to the fast approach of the helpless young pup, the giant creature had to act. Backing up slightly, her large form leaped onto the nearest rock, claws scrabbling to hang onto it as if for dear life. When she gained her footing, Malachi looked in the distance again, trying to spot her flailing target amidst the other rocks. As the current drifted the pup further to the center, the grizzly female swallowed hard before making another jump to an adjacent rock.

A loud 'SPLASH!' was heard as her scarred back leg submerged into the water, making Malachi's heart leap and her skin prickle with the fear that washed over her. Using her powerful front end to bring her leg back up onto the boulder. Sounds of distress could be heard coming from her chest, as Mala found herself breathing hard, and not only from her heroic efforts. "Okay, Mala.. it's just like fishing.." She spoke aloud, attempting to get over her fear for the moment and convince herself that there was a reason she was there, in the center of the creek, facing her two big fears.

One giant paw was outstretched, eyes trained on the drifting pup as she would a fish. Leaning forward, she waited patiently, ignoring the pounding of her heart which thrummed violently in her ears. It was in this moment, Malachi was convinced, that if she could not scoop the pup up with her paw nor snatch her up in her jaws.. she would have to dive down into the deep, cold, black unknown.
