Morning has broken

Umbra stretched and yawned, stepping out from the small hollow underneath the fallen tree where he'd slept. Shaking himself, he lifted his leg against the trunk. It was a simple thing, maybe, but it so marked the difference from when he'd been in the pack where only the alpha -- a.k.a his mother -- had been allowed to urinate standing. Snorting and looking back one last time towards the mountains, he headed west.

It had barely been a day since he'd left the Inferni borders behind, and it had brought him far south from his original goal. Well, it probably wouldn't hurt too much. At least these were unclaimed lands, and he didn't have to put too much thought in what he did and said.

Had his family survived the fire? The thought popped up from nowhere, as did the images of his siblings as he'd last seen them. Atra, Cinis and Lucida. And tiny Silvius. And as always their mother hovering in the background. He shook his head to get rid of the image and continued on. With her to watch over the pack, he was sure they were alright.
"Speech."
