blank stares at blank pages

Lili had opted to wait for Luke outside the packlands, so that they could explore their new home together. That meant slacking off for a couple days, but Lili figured she deserved the chance to relax. There was very little she could do without the sheep Jeb and Ire, anyway--it wasn't like she knew any of the horses here, or like other people would be comfortable with her handling their mounts. She'd heard something about a cow--or was it a bull?--but Lili didn't know how to handle them, either, so really she was useless at the moment. Sitting in the sparse forest, on the opposite side of a barbed wire fence than a few grazing elk, Lili did her daily draw for the fifth time, always coming up with the same card--the Ace of Wands. That meant that, at some point today, there would be a good period to start something new, or a time to be creative. Lili wondered what that meant, but she wasn't one to try and force the cards; she would wonder later, after something had happened.

Like an elk leaning over the fence and swiping the card out of her hand. Lili didn't even give herself time to stare in shock; she jumped up, leaving the cards in a neat pile on the ground, and leapt over the fence, chasing after the stupid wapiti with claws extended and a snarl on her face. She wasn't much a fan of deer; sure, they could be intelligent animals, and yes, they were delicious, but they never had anything interesting to say. And they always...

They always tried to trample her. Lili leaped just as she thought of this, landing on the deer's back and wrapping one arm around its wiry neck. She struggled for a moment as it bucked and tossed, before she noticed her card, innocent and, luckily, uninjured, floating gently to the ground. She dug her claws in for good measure--damn the stupid thing for stealing it in the first place!--and slipped from its back, scooping the card up in time to roll away from hooves trying to come down on her head. Then she gulped, looking up to see an almost full herd pawing at the ground and tossing their heads. Yeah...they always tried to trample her.

She leaped up with a scream and started running, not daring to turn to her Secui form for fear of losing her precious card. They were everything to her; it was no wonder she'd been lured into what was so obviously a trap. Or maybe the idiot thing had thought it was a new thing to eat; all the same, if Lili didn't make it to the fence soon, she'd be flat as a card, herself...and hurting a lot more.
