The sea water was numbing as it washed across her sere-shaded hands. Fingers chafed against the willow green gown while it was submerged in the hawkish water. Drenched as the garment was once it was pulled above the churning surface, it was hung easily on the thread after being wrung loosely. It even stirred in the spring draft, catching the few rays of the beginning sunset that were cast.
Ever returned to the tide and repeated the cleaning process with her favored maroon sweater dress. With the sun retreating to its den beneath the sea, the temperature dropped with the aid of the wandering breeze. Pebbles and grains of sand tossed and quivered as the edge of the aqua shrunk towards the reddish reflection of the sun. An exhausted pace carried the cloud-furred girl back to the laundry line. She clipped another fabric up to dry, coaxing a few more drops of salt water out with her fingers.
Her fingers still dripped when she returned to the ocean side, kneeling in the wet earth a few meters from her shack. She splashed the yellow gown in her grasp, influencing water to enter its seams. This was her first time cleansing her wear and it happened to be a quite soothing. Ever’s mind could collect its thoughts and heal the feelings connected to them by taunt strings. Ocean-hued irises looked to the distant end of the beach, hoping to see a figure. Disappointment came easier now, so the youth went back to washing without much of a frown.
