Chardonnay Chartreuse

The city was like and unlike any wilderness Chardonnay had visited and he was not yet sure whether he liked it. The formations buildings were very similar to the ravines and cliffs he had come across in his journeys, yet they were so uniform and and regular that he could not help feel uneasy. The numerous alcoves and rooms could hold any matter of objects, live or otherwise, that ranged from merely interesting to or just plain odd, like the metal spring that had poured water on him when he was nosing the protuberances on the wall. He did not understand where the water came from and was unable to find the source after a thorough search. There were no streams or rivers in the area, so Chardonnay assumed that they were underground,; and that must explain why there, relatively, was so little greenery in the city. The deer and wildlife that he was used to seeing in the woodlands either simply weren't there or took great care to keep hidden. He understood why that may be the case; after all, the streets were very open and what cover existed in the form of trees was very little. The idea that he stuck out like a sore thumb made him feel strangely naked and vulnerable in a way he rarely felt even in his optine form. There was much evidence by the way of smell that Halifax was often frequented, and therefore Chardonnay took care to keep his wits about him in case he no longer found himself alone. Exploring the city in his lupine form was more comfortable to him in a strange place, and it was superior to the optime if the need to make himself scarce or fight arose, though he was confident that there would be no need.

Nose to the ground and ears pricked for unusual sounds, he wound his way plastic bins in dank alley way, searching for rats. Last time had he had a full meal was some time ago, while the rodents inhabiting the city great in number, their small size only dampened his hunger. Usually he would avoid hunting them, finding them to be not as tasty as venison or rabbit, but today he did not care about the taste. He needed to eat, and soon, to replenish his energy before it lagged. Sensing movement he over turned an aluminum can only to find an empty nest. Lips peeled back to reveal ivory teeth, he growled in disappointment, sure that had been a tail slipping underneath the can. At this rate he would not find anything to eat before dark, and the coywolf did not fancy that turn into fact.
