closed eyes still look forward

So sorry for the delay!

Things were going pleasurably at home. Since Ezra’s arrival and re-appearance, the girl had been in a state of bliss which further continued after their evening together. Her head still hummed merrily when she closed her eyes and felt his radiant lips on hers. From the time then, Ever had stayed inside the bungalow most of the day after she went to the stables; wrapped in the sheets with her mate.

Today, however, was affectionately clear and cloudless. Beams of light filtered in from the foremost window in the main room, gathering lustfully on the sandy wood floors and casting shadows that deepened as the morning dragged on. Ever sat on the drooping steps in front of the door of their beach shack. She had an arm extended across the length of her knees and her lids closed over her aqua hued eyes. Sounds of the dawning afternoon interrupted the strong pulsing of waves against the shore. Her body stirred lightly, shoulder shifting a tendril of twisted auburn hair.

Already the horizon was darkening from a soft periwinkle to bottomless cobalt. Ever’s morning had been spent around the house, tending to the few buds that had been coaxed from the rough golden grain and organizing her and Ezra’s few belongings. She readjusted her form on the steps again and still only for another second before standing. Her silver fur was ruffled hastily by the new summer breeze, carrying with it the scent of fresh sea salt. Automatically, Ever turned swiftly and wound her way around the house and onto the path to the stables. A slim trail was beginning to form where she had made the trek every dawn. Her eyes were sharp in the darkness of the shade beneath the trees. Naturally, the hybrid couldn’t help being cautious.

The worn burgundy building came into view quickly, deep set after the parting of the trees. Ever made her way through the thick grass and towards the large metal door. Smoky hands pulled open the heavy latch until it was splayed enough for a horse to fit through. She greeted each horse individually, checking the mornings feed and water. Eventually, to no surprise, Saphraine pushed his way into the stables, white silky mane outlined in a luminous glow from the afternoon light. When the stallion came close Ever stroked her hands tenderly on his muzzle. He was warm from grazing in the sun. She smiled gently as he pushed against her eagerly.

They went directly west. Since joining Miracles, Ever hadn’t thought much of leaving the territory, however, when Ezra had been absent, she found comfort in surrounding territories. The smell of fresh earth was strong in the breeze as the girl walked along side her companion, dark hand tangled in his mane. Her face was formed in a neutral expression, much as she was used to yielding when her mind was twirled in thoughts. After a moment, the thick forests parted gradually to grassland and began to dapple with bushes and sparse trees when they left the territory. The girl mounted the wild haflinger gracefully, adjusting her sunflower-shaded dress. With a subdued tap of her dark heel, Ever urged the stallion forward and into a mild gait. A touch of warmth brushed across her face as they continued farther away from her home. Suddenly, a dark figure could be seen silhouetted atop a moderate hill in a tree dusted area. The girl slowed Saphraine as the descended a slope and came close to the stranger, still too far away to detect packs. She pulled curiously close until she saw his knife. It was pulled placidly from a tattered bag and held expertly against a rather indifferent tree to the girl. Ocean irises watched silently atop her steed, still reasonably concealed by the dimness of the canopy. Saphraine tossed, his golden neck flashing, nervous about having the stranger close to his companion.
