M - running up that road
#10
It was a morning Hybrid had mistaken for a peaceful and tranquil avant-midi. He had initially expected to be alone, save for his empty desires for annoying wolves to annoy and pesky hybrids to pester. While he wanted many things, solitude was one of the few that was a simple desire. He was a master of reclusiveness and took to the borders like it was an old friend, which in all honesty, it was.

The sound of a single word spoken in the quiet morning shattered his plans in a single stroke. He’d already started plotting his route for the morning, but another meeting with his niece would change all of that. He knew that another meeting with her would only go poorly, for the last one had been like every other: bitter and with just enough anger that it still stung later. He didn’t like how upset he got, but then, he supposed it was the only real emotion he allowed himself to feel. He fought with the anger racing deep through his veins, so why should this be any different?

“Niece,” he greeted her. His words were flat as he tried to hide his curiosity. It would do him no good if Talitha got the silly idea in her head that he could tolerate her presence. He feared it would only result in an increase of their interactions. Besides, just saying 'niece' didn't have quite the same ring to it as 'uncle' did.
