Her strange concoction was already starting to work. She stared out into the air in front of her noticing that everything was moving so slowly. There were a few birds that flew by and it looked as if it took them minutes to pass. There wings flapped so slowly that they looked like they wouldn’t hold their owners up. She wanted wings. She wished she could fly. She picked up her heavy arms from their sides and flapped them like a bird, but slowly. They felt so heavy, like they had a bolder strapped to each one. She looked at herself. Her colors intrigued her, almost like she had never seen herself before. She stared at herself for a moment before looking elsewhere.

She looked toward the water and saw its sparkle. Her eyes widened in highness as she watched it glisten. The water looked like a bunch of diamonds just floating and shining. Awesomeness. The tree behind her felt rough, and when she turned around to look at it, it winked at her. She squeezed her eyes shut and shook her head. Then she looked back at it, and the tree winked again.

Hello.

She spoke to the tree. Her voice sounded slow and low pitched, almost like someone else’s voice. She blinked slowly, wondering about it for a moment before shrugging slowly and leaning back against the tree. She stared at the ground now, with all its mucky leaves around. It was almost like padding. If she wanted to lie down, it would be like a natural bed. She lost herself thinking about the naturalness of the ground and didn’t even realize someone approach her. Their voice sounded almost as slow and low as hers and she blinked up at them. If they were dangerous, Axelle had no type of chance at this moment. She couldn’t even understand what the wolf before her was saying, and by what she was hearing she couldn’t tell if it was a female or a male. All she knew was that she had some goop left in the bowl and looked down towards it. She stretched her hand out and grabbed the bowl. She peered inside with great weirdness and handed it toward the stranger.

Take some.

She didn’t even know how she sounded right now, but she sounded really, really high. She licked her lips feeling herself drooling, but she wasn’t. She closed her eyes and dropped her head back toward the winking tree. It landed with a low thud, but she didn’t notice the pain at all. This would be a good way to die.

Die?! What was she thinking?! That was just it, she wasn’t thinking. She was too high to think. At all. Now she was drooling, and she couldn’t feel it, couldn’t notice how disgusting she looked, but she felt the greatest pleasure she had ever felt. Her whole body tingled with happiness. She felt the bodily warmth of the winking tree behind her, almost like it was an alive, breathing somebody. She opened her eyes toward the sky, seeing those same floating birds and lifting her hand to her mouth to wipe the drool away. She dropped her arm into her lap and just stared upward. She hadn’t even realized if her new neighbor had taken any yet. Well, they better sit down.

You should sit down before you take some.

She didn’t even know if she was too late when she said it, but it didn’t really matter right now. Soon, her new friend would be feeling this same experience she was feeling and probably be as lost as she was.

Her head throbbed, but not with pain. It was a good, brain-working kind of throb. She felt smart, and smelled weird things as she sat there stupidly. She looked down at her bag and saw all her little bags still on the forest floor.

Better put them away before the little squirrels come and steal them.

She moved her heavy arms toward her things on the floor. Her fingers tried to grab at the items, but she couldn’t feel them. Somehow, she managed to get a grip on the two little bags of ‘herbs’ and sloppily throw them into the main compartment of her satchel. The rest would have to be done later since she couldn’t get a good grip on anything. She raised her hand to her face and screamed at it to move. One finger did, and she dropped her hand to her lap again and stared forward, lost.
