a shot in the dark

Jackson's step-uncle is no bueno with kids, so forgive his slight awkwardness. Tongue 405

The D'Angelo kept to himself in the den Naniko assigned him since his arrival. While the Zepar ventured out to Halifax by means of a map Naniko provided him with to obtain some decor and personality for his den, other than that Helios only knew the route that led from his den to the closest exit. He was more focused on settling into his new underground abode than fully exploring all of the other outlying dens there were, just because Helios wanted to make himself feel comfortable in his own space before venturing out into someone else's. As soon as Helios hauled back some items to fit the decor of his den accordingly (mainly ruined pictures of art, interesting objects, books, statues, and some other miscellaneous things), only then would he feel comfortable enough to journey into the residence of the pack underground.

Passing like a dark poltergeist through the shadows of the caverns, Helios was on his way up and out to the surface and fresh air before the particularly strong scent of horses eluded his senses. For creatures as big as horses were, the scent baffled him as to why it would be down in these caverns when they were typically seen roaming and grazing in wide plains on the outside. Questionable whether or not the smell was a good or bad sign, Helios' curiosity led him to the tunnel where it would lead him into the area where Anathema kept their equines underground. Helios thought he seen some oddities in his day, but a stable underground?

For the few equines Anathema possessed, the ones here appeared to be content enough without the outside. Before one of them was a young boy, two-toned in black and white, and Helios walked in on the tail end of his question to one of them as he asked what that particular horse was doing. Seeing as how there was no ready response to be had, Helios kept silent before strutting into the room halfway. Keeping a comfortable distance between the boy and himself, jade eyes observed the count of horses in the dim den. "What are they doing down here is a better question…" Helios suddenly spoke, his question addressing both wonderment and the young boy before him. His gaze lingered upon the horses before falling slightly upon him. There was something strangely familiar about the boy's physique, even though Helios had never seen him before.
