all my underdogs

He should have heard the animal walking towards him. He should have heard the shift in sand, the whisp of claws over rocks. He was far too absorbed in his own thoughts. His thoughts that had quickly led him down the path of his unborn children. Fairly shortly after that, the panic attack had kicked in. He couldnt be a father. He was rude and crass, he was cold and arrogent. He didnt exactly scream affection. And Demi was the only one who recieved anything of the kind, and most of the time it was because Teddy wanted more. He couldnt do that with his children. What if he was like his own father- abusive and ridiculously driven to breed a super race of wolves? He could never do that to his children, but his panic saturated brain wasn't looking at this in a logical manor. All he could see in his mind was his children, alone and neglected. No matter that Demi and Naniko would never let that happen. He was just about to move onto the stages of hyperventilating when the voice came through the mist.

His natural instinct was to flash round and bite. To snap and growl, not just for being approached but for his own stupidity at being creeped up on. But it wasnt exactly like the male had been quiet and stealthy and he quite clearly had no intention of doing anything untoward. And a small voice in the back of his mind told him firmly that he couldnt live his life like this. He couldnt hate the first person to talk to him automatically. It just wasnt going to work. And he also couldnt do it because he was a leader. He had to be approachable. So instead of growling and snapping, he turned, peering over his shoulder and trying his best at a smile.

"I'll never learn... A sun-pup as ever." He tried joking and with the roll of his shoulders, turned back to the swell. "You smell new" He stated, a contorted way of asking the male who he was and what he was doing.
