The pair crossed the coals to reach their Angela. Naniko gave them a solemn nod as a few other pack members arrived, taking spots around the trio. She bent to pick up the end of the rope that the lamb was tied to, grasping the end of her ceremonial dagger in the other hand. She turned back toward the group that had gathered, clearing her throat to speak. "These two canines have come today to be joined together for life. We will give sacrifice to the Gods in hope that they will bless these chosen two with luck and fertility in their coming years. After the ceremony is completed, we will feast in honor of the Gods and the sacrifice of the lamb."
She crouched down next to the lamb. The creature did not seem afraid of her, somewhat domesticated as it was...and even when she reached to pull it closer to her it did not bleat or make any sound. Perhaps it knew that this was the end of its short life, that it was to be involved in something much bigger than itself. In one flash of steel it was over and she laid the lamb's body next to the fire, blood covering her hands in spatters.
She stood, next, reaching forward to run one blood covered thumb over Teddy's forehead. Demi was next, her thumb brushing over the soft fur of her niece's forehead. She then reached for the hanging charms. There were two for each of them, one ankh and one charm for luck. Naniko set her dagger down, taking the strung charms and placing them around the necks of the newly mated pair.
"It is done. May we hope that these two canines live long and prosperous lives...that their luck remain strong and that they be blessed with many pups. You may come up to give them gifts, if you have brought them." She said. These words signaled the end of the ceremony, and the female stepped forward to the area in which the food was set up to wash the blood from her hands in a bowl of water and to take something to eat.
