SO CLEVER. I know. I know. 1 person only.

Silvano took the day off from his family, and the scant few friends that he had, to travel to the city of Halifax, hoping to find usable materials for the job he wanted to hold. He was looking to become a record keeper of sorts for the pack. Since he was very into reading and writing, he knew that he was probably the most suitable for the task in among his family and the rest of the Dreamers. Silvano spent enough time in the library to know who went in their often and who did not. He was getting tired of not knowing if a book was out of the library for personal use to someone else, so he figured it was high time to get some way of recording who took what when. But he had not found enough paper to start something like that. Most of it had already degraded by the time he picked it up, depending on the conditions he had found it in. There were plenty of pencils to be had, but it was still the paper he needed.

So he found himself in Halifax, looking for book stores or supply stores that would have the notebooks he needed, hopefully sealed in plastic. It was getting frustrating; he wanted to find unused, clean, still white paper. No one around had learned yet how the humans had made paper and Silvano was dying for a nice hundred sheet stack of them nicely bound with either a cloth spine or even a metal spiral. Was it too much to ask for to get one or two or fifteen of them? Really, it did not seem like such a demanding thing. And now that he was here, he thought he might as well go into the book stores and find a new book or two or seven for the library. Hopefully the quality of the paper in those was still good and they were only aging in the dust rather than molding in the dampness.

The Sadira youth pressed his nose against a window pane, squinting into the dark store. It was a local bookshop filled with books. He could even see dust floating in it from the few beams of light managing to get into the interior through the now grimy and rain stained window. The posters were so bleached from decades in the light it looked as though the colors were starting to fade into each other. But he could see the stacks of books, multiple duplicates of them even, inside. Maybe he could find a book for the library and then his own personal collection. That would be divine, filling up the empty space in his bedroom with a huge wall to wall shelf with nothing but books. God, he was a nerd but he loved it anyway.

It was far too tempting. Silvano moved to the glass door, ignoring the "closed" sign on it. He tried to open the door but it was jammed for some reason. He shook it, and the thing only rattled. So the owners had managed to lock it before the catastrophe. Checking the sign once more, he saw that it said "on vacation in New York. Be back in three weeks". So perhaps they had escaped the thing that killed the humans? Shrugging at himself, Silvano pushed again, getting no result. He would have to break the door's windows and open the lock that way. But what to break it with?
