It was the screams and screeches that had caught the male's attention first and foremost. He spent a lot of time in the border area, checking and re-checking for any sign of an outsider or a threat. Gideon's body would never be the same after what had happened to him in the mountainous pack Anathema, but he was working with what he had. The male exercised each morning, running despite the tenseness and sore muscles that sometimes came as a result. Chunks of flesh had been taken out of his legs and one looked slightly slimmer than the other, the only outward sign of the experimental abuse he had suffered. He had a brave heart, however, and that was half the battle for the large male. He had one knife, a slingshot, and a bow and arrow set but had left the bow back at home during this patrol. It was night, so he wouldn't be able to see very well from a distance...and the weapon would have been nearly useless in a hand to hand situation.
Gideon came upon the situation at a brisk run, his dark form moving with swift certainty through the forest toward the sounds. This was what he had been given this rank for, to protect the pack from danger, and he would do so to the best of his ability. He shouted loudly as he came upon the tussling pair, growling as he viewed the aggressor from the side. He had yet to see who was being attacked, and only knew that one was on top of the other. The scent of blood was high on the breeze, and with it came a more familiar scent. Wretch's scent, mixed in with that of his brother's. Who was this oddly-smelling canine that had attacked her? "GIT. Get the Hell out of here!" He yelled, rushing at the aggressor and pulling his knife from its sheath to slash at them.
