To Itachi, his rank was an empty title. He had been chosen to hold such a high and respected rank only because his leader seemed to prefer him over others. With the blonde’s unwillingness to sacrifice unless his own interests matched that of others, it was strange that he had been upped in such a way. But, again, to Itachi it was nothing but an empty title, and he did not ponder about his standing or his duties. Time and space flowed as it willed, and his only task was to follow the mainstream as long as it carried him where he desired.
He couldn’t find the fear he thought he had seen in her previously. But much and more had changed since then. Perhaps, as so many high standing individuals did, she thought herself immortal due to her standing in Salsola. Arrogance could easily blind its prey, and the fall was always deeper. But he couldn’t see what carried her. For all he knew at this moment, there was no particular reason for her to fear him. True, few or none would be able to understand the logic that had led him to shove Kaena into the abyss, but he wasn’t as spontaneous as he seemed to be.
Lime eyes stared. At first, it could seem like he intended to establish lasting eye contact, but he knew of his pack’s preferences in behaviour. Heavy lidded eyes preferred the rocky ground instead, gazing at the sparse distance between them with fixed indifference. He wondered about her purpose here, for he was certain that she didn’t know that he knew about the dragon. Itachi was not a special creature, but whispers had haunted his dreams for months, and had transgressed into disturbing him while awake as well. He knew of the man the voice belonged to, and she would too. But Eris had already played her part. He prayed he wouldn’t have to. Perhaps he was simply insane.
If she didn’t know the meaning of the words, he would be free. He wanted to test her, but the time wasn’t right for that.
