She could not remember why she had ever wanted him in the first place. If it was up to her and her alone, she might have knocked him down a few ranks for his simplistic refusal, his steadfast face. It was utterly immovable, and it remained so even as he shrugged his thin, boyish shoulders. Perhaps this one had only a piece of that demon, or perhaps it was dormant in him, waiting to be passed along to his offspring. Oh. That was why she had wanted him, perhaps why she had wanted his ancestor, too. Still, it was unlikely as all hell that she would conceive just now anyway, considering her present state.

She peered at him calmly enough, though she wondered whether those words were meant as a slight. There was no tone, no shift of body language, nothing to indicate it was anything. So, the words must then be taken at face value, she figured. It did not make her comfortable to have one in her pack she could not read. The hybrid woman did not frown or smile, however, and did her best impression of him, trying to give nothing away. Consider them, or don't, she replied, giving him only indifference. He would have nothing else of her, not now.

She was not bound by the plebiscite and opinion of Salsola's majority; she was not even bound by the opinions of her highest-ranking. It was Sirius and Sirius alone she bowed her head to, and the hybrid would have none of that with this pallid blonde boy. He was, after all, just a boy -- she pondered whether he would best Larkspur. Surely, The Protege's mind was sharper than her mate's, but Larkspur certainly had height and weight over Itachi. Then again, the tawny Lykoi fought with weapons, and Eris had never seen Larkspur fight with anything but his brutal hands.
