all the anguish you suppressed

Claudius did not understand. About what did Dawali lie? How could he not have the 'right' to be a Chief and why would it even matter? Claudius knew that there was a 'great tribe' from which AniWaya originated, but who cared if Dawali was not the 'rightful' leader when he had been leader for so long and done so much? Claudius just couldn't understand why any of this mattered or why this wolf, Maska, seemed to think it did. From what his mother had explained, the original tribe had tried to flee and seek refuge in 'Souls due to persecution. Other wolves had scorned their ways and treated them so poorly that they had decided enough was enough and set out to find their new world. So why was this wolf doing the same thing to this tribe? Claudius couldn't figure it out, for they had never harmed anyone nor had they claimed to be anything more than they were.

Certainly this Aacha Aacha fellow was the 'true' Chief, but what did it matter if this AniWaya had been set up in the original tribe's image? They were family-tribes and he didn't understand this sort of persecution. He felt positively sicked and horrible and he didn't want to cry because he knew what he was feeling now was anger, but still felt so full of emotions that he didn't know what to do. He knew that he detested this Maska Ahote fellow and the sadness and shame he brought to Dawali and the Amara name. Claudius clamped his jaws shut, knowing that speaking out would do him no good. If this Maska fellow thought he was the boss around here, he could see that he would be punished just like Dawali had if he had stepped out of line.

When Claudius glanced over his shoulder, he was startled to see Gerenuk standing close to him, his wide eyes even wider than normal. Claudius didn't think Gerenuk was visible to anyone else, since he was making rather rude motions with his behind at Maska. Claudius tried not to snigger and for a moment, he felt a little better knowing Gerenuk thought Maska was a tool, too.
