Smile <3

Dusk was coming. The once bright rays of the sun drifted downwards, midnight blue now plaguing the sky. Stars began to rear their heads, nosing at the world below them. It was as though they watched everything that went on, twinkling words to each other, gossiping all night long. The air, however, was still thick with heat. Humid and distasteful, even the trees seemed to sweat. There was no wind, not a whisper or a lick. It was silent, still. It was eerie.

The moon lit up the ground below. It revealed the labyrinth of desolate buildings, entangled in trees and shrubbery. There were decaying shells of houses, tall skeletons that could have once been flats, buildings that no longer even had identities due to the strangling vines of ivy that covered them from top to bottom. The concrete pathways were now cracked and deformed, soil rising up between the slabs, some even turning upright from the shoving tree roots. It was a strange environment, especially at night, but for some it was a comfort, a peaceful place. It was a home.

One of these particular souls was Lucia. She had travelled again, finding herself in a familiar place. She could recall once meeting a quite twisted young man by the name of Haku amongst this chaos and it almost seemed that the place hadn’t changed a bit. The trees might have grown, the ivy might have tightened its grip, but it all seemed just the way she had seen it last. Maybe she was dreaming, or maybe it was the flickering shadows that seemed to dance in the pale glare of the moon. Either way, she found this place calming to her soul, and soothing to her mind.

Walking through the empty streets, her viridian coals took in every detail. In particular, she studied the buildings. She was looking for a place to stay the night, a place to drink her poison and sleep the demons away. She wanted privacy, shelter, she wanted solitude. There had been way too many accidental encounters since her return. She had come back purely because it was all she knew, but it seemed like there was a sign above her head. Everyone wanted to talk to her, everyone was invading her space. It was frustrating, but at least on the upside, she knew what had happened during her absence. Snake had not returned, he was gone for certain it seemed. Inferni, well, she hadn’t a clue about that, and she didn’t really care. More packs had formed, some merged. That intrigued her. She would have to investigate at a later date.

Failing to find even a slightly attractive location to call it a night, Lucia sighed and mumbled under her breath. Attacking the leather pouch around her waist, she pulled out a cigarette and clasped it between her lips. Lighting it, the flames licking the air around them, Lucia inhaled deeply. Smoke floated around her skull like a halo, and slivered from her nostrils like snakes. Looking around once more, Lucia decided it was best to pause for a while under one of the big oaks that had started devouring half the building next to it.

Reaching it, she slid down the bark grumpily. Back against it, legs outstretched, she let out a small growl of frustration before continuing to puff on the cancerous stick she held between her fingers. There was sorrow in her heart, but the anger in her mind overpowered it. She was at war with herself, memories of Snake and the life she knew before haunting her, killing her from the inside-out. Each day she seemed to lose herself more, go a little crazier. It didn’t bother her however, for she knew not of it happening. She was oblivious. To Lucia, life was as it should be. Hungry, lost and alone... That was the way things were, and that’s how they would probably stay.
