Their time together was coming to a close now, this she could tell. For a single moment of time wolf and coyote, for she was obviously more coyote than she was wolf, had stood together in peace, maybe not as friends but certainly not enemies, and not with hatred or blood lust adorning their thoughts, in this world where brother turned against brother all too easily, that the two who should be blood enemies by genetics and evolution, for wolfves hunted and ate coyotes sometimes, was nothing short of monumental, even if she was surrounded by wolves in Anathema, this was the outside and the wilderness.
She knew there was small chance of her seeing him again but this man had touched her in some special way and it was a mark that she could carry, visible to no one and yet viewable by all who cared to look. No longer would Gemma Sawtooth pine after Matteo Not-Trovato in a disturbing and unhealthy display that embarrassed everyone who witnessed it, the coydog was not worth the effort or tears. The wounds on her knees caused by the sharp rocks had ceased in their bleeding and she could walk without pain back to her cave where the darker Trovato brother awaited her return.
They stared at each other for a moment of silence before the wolf said his goodbye, indicating she should leave as well.
"Goodbye Jaden, May the luck of the heavens fall at your feet. May you find what you are looking for in this life and the next." With those parting words, the female turned and left, carrying herself back down the side of the mountain on only slightly wobbly legs. When she could no longer see or smell him she let her head tip back and howled one last time, a final goodbye to the man that had probably stopped her committing suicide on this night, but he would have a place in her life from now on even though he was gone, she sheyote stroked her stomach tenderly. One of them would be named for her savior, the black wolf with blue eyes.
