As she drew closer, she noticed the scars on his muzzle and wondered how they had come about. In general, Mars looked more weathered and tired than the last time Pixie had seen him, but she wasn’t surprised by that; he had had pups and jumped from pack to pack until he finally settled in Crimson Dreams only recently. Noticing one of the pups pointing at her, the silver woman gave the girl a wave and a friendly smile. Pixie had yet to see the mother of the pups yet, but she assumed the pup got her pelt coloring and dog-like appearance from the mother. The son, who seemed less friendly than his sister, looked a little like Mars, but his eyes—one blue and one pink—were unlike that of his father.

The man explained why he had left Cercatori, and his opinion of Shawchert appeared to be much different than Skye’s; the new leader of the pack of artists had been the first to tell Pixie of Shaw’s leaving, and while she seemed stricken by his sudden disappearance, she had had no ill words for him. Pixie could somewhat sympathize with Mars, knowing that she, too, would be angry if her leader suddenly left for no reason. However, she fully supported Skye, one of her good friends, as the replacement leader, and she didn’t see why Mars thought she wouldn’t be capable of leading the pack. “Skye has managed to hold the pack together after Shaw’s disappearance,” she said, “even while carrying and raising pups. I’d consider her a good leader after she made through all of that.” Of course, Pixie did not live in Cercatori, and so she could only say so much about what she thought of Skye’s leadership when she wasn’t even under it. But as an outsider who only knew some of what happened within the neighboring pack, she couldn’t see why Mars would choose to leave, especially with very young pups, when there really was no pressing danger that would cause them to do so.

His opinions on Dahlia de Mai were more understandable. Pixie couldn’t imagine pups that age trying to make a journey over a mountain; she herself wouldn’t make such a journey unless absolutely necessary, due to her hatred of snow and ice. “So you left Dahlia…and came here instead?” she asked tentatively. “Good god, four packs in less than a year…you’ve sure been busy, Mars…in more ways than one,” she added cheekily, eying the two pups. “Your mate…she’s your friend from Cercatori, right? The one who came from the West, like you?” She had never formally met Krystalle, but Mars had mentioned her once or twice. Back when Mars was in Cercatori, before the pups were born, Pixie hadn’t been sure if he and the woman from Las Vegas were mates or just good friends that lived together. It seemed now that the former was the case.

She waved once again as Mars introduced the pups to her, and vice versa. Chuckling at Amon’s greeting, she watched as the tri-colored man helped his daughter down from the tank, so that Paz could run up to the silver girl and ask about her guitar. “Yes, I do,” she answered, swinging her guitar around in front of her so she could play it. The dove symbol shined beautifully in the sun as Pixie began to strum a mid-tempo tune she had come up with a while ago. She had played it for some pups she had met while passing through a town in southern Canada, and they had responded quite enthusiastically to it, jumping up and down and dancing to the rhythm. She wouldn’t be sure that Amon and Paz would react exactly the same, but it didn’t matter much to Pixie because it was a nice song and she was happy to play it.
