Soft fingers of light filtered through the cracks in weathered wooden structure. Breaking up the darkness as they illuminated the fine particles that floated through the stagnant air of the enclosed building. The buzzing of an insects wings hummed in the air and an amber ear twitched as the fly landed momentary on its ridge only to immediately take to the air again. Buzzing around the prone form only to land again and once more be shaken away. The she-wolf lifted her head from the cool concrete. Pink tongue licked gingerly at the raw, broken skin on her fore legs. The motion accompanied by the metallic clink of the rusted chain bound around her neck.
The lips of her muzzle had also been worn raw and bleeding. The tender flesh swelled at the abuse and lack of care. Thirst finally drove the beast to its feet. Every muscle in her body aching with the effort of bring her hulking secui form to its feet. The water was days old. The surface littered with the small carcasses of the few winged insects that had ventured to its surface and found it inescapable and a thin layer of grimy filth coated its bottom. But it was water. The deer leg that had been left for had remained untouched, but the water, no matter its filth, could not be denied.
Her lapping paused and ears stood erect as they detected a stirring outside. Her nose still hovered near the water's surface as the sounds grew ever closer the door of the building. The sound of the chain dragging across the floor seemed to echo within the walls as she retreated into the darkest, farthest corner. A low rumble growing in her chest.
