Short & late Dx -Sucks at ending posts.-

He could see them leaning back into the couch with their feet kicked up on the table, sipping vodka and smoking a blunt, swapping stories and trade tips while the children tumbled through the gardens outside. One day, anyway--it didn't seem as distant or preposterous as it might've a couple months ago. Life (or Luck) had thrown him a bone once more: in the face of all this apprehension and uncertainty, he had something to look forward to. He wouldn't walk this onerous path alone; he would go with a friend. Even if they were both inexperienced fathers, Ezra's years on the Dreamer (and genuine dedication) would likely afford him greater wisdom sooner. Barry would gladly leach off of any knowledge or experience in exchange for fleeting refuge from the pressures of family life. Hilsburn, at least for the foreseeable future, would stay a carefree bachelor pad open to all forms of debauchery and merriment.

For now, he offered a quick, firm nod and a slight, bright smile as a final farewell. “Adios, amigo,” he bade quietly as they about-faced and went their separate ways. He made a hazy mental note to inquire about Ezra's construction project next time they met. Maybe he'd even see the house first hand someday. Or he could show the bi-coloured hybrid the old covered bridge he fixed up in Crimson Dreams. They could discuss tools and techniques once they exhausted any "baby talk," yes... they were men after all. Truthfully, Ezra was the first (unrelated) male he really connected with since his arrival in Nova Scotia; it would seem a little queer to admit it, but he really hoped this bond would strengthen and last.
