look how they shine for you

Kansas could not believe how quickly the summer was passing. Already the days were shortening again, the sun rising later and setting earlier. There were still a few months of warmth left, and he had yet to remorse over loss of sunlight and the ever corresponding loss of energy he felt each year the days forbade those extra hours of light.

When he strode into the orchard, it was only late afternoon. Lexington was nowhere in sight, so Kansas pointed his muzzle toward the blazing blue sky and called for the stallion. He crossed his arms and turned in a slow circle, until he heard the rapid thunder of horse hooves and spotted the blue beast emerge from the fringe of the forest. Kansas said hello to the stallion with a few friendly slaps on the side of the neck. He clicked his tongue and started toward the manor, and at the sound of his master's beckoning Lexington walked humbly behind, his great head held close to Kansas's.

They reached the porch, where Kansas stopped, Lexington likewise pausing behind him. There, the ivory werewolf watched the front door with mounting impatience and excitement. He could not wait for this evening to begin. He and Savina remained as close as ever, but it had been a while since they had taken a few hours for themselves away from the direct activity of the pack. And, he was eager to see her come through the door, sunlight shining in her raven hair and coat and in the depths of her bright eyes. He was impatient, yet he smiled as he drummed the fingers of one hand between Lexington's shoulders.
