had writers block like you wouldn’t believe, then I got all rambly..go figure

Her eyes seem filled full with mixed emotions as her fingers brushed his cheek, Cypress pressed lightly into the contact as he looked up at eyes that mirrored his own and returning the soft smile with his own. He could not read the emotions held within their depths and he worried that maybe his questioning had upset her somehow. His smile faltering ever so slightly as his brow pinched together in mild concern. He loved his mother dearly, all her sons did and she had been enough, she would always be enough. Anu was all they had needed as young pups growing up and the pack of Dreamers filled any gaps their might of been in the absence of their sire. But Cypress saw things in himself that he did not see evidence of in his mother. He wanted to know the other side of the die from which he had been cast, not because his mother was not enough, but because he was driven to come to some understanding of himself. He wanted to know what possibilities the future might hold for him, yet still keeping in perspective that he was not bound to follow in the direct foot steps of either.

Alder was much like Mother. Perhaps not in his large size and dark shaggy fur, but he was kind and gentle in his ways. Soft spoken and often quite, though it seemed none of them used an excessive amount of words. Something that was probably not surprising to either of their parents. Oak too was more like Mother than Cypress felt he himself was. For some reason Cypress had always felt envious of his brothers. When they had been young pups it had been their size he envied and he had teased Alder for the small and quite personality he had that did not fit the size of his body. The youngest, the smallest, perhaps the youth was just looking for something that could be his and his alone. In part, his likeness in appearance to his father gave him that and so Cypress had put their sire on a high pedestal in mind as something to strive towards.

But he had her eyes.

He believed her when she stated he cared. She had never given him reason not to trust her words. He gave a soft nod of understanding they were hers and Cypress would never wish for his puphood to be any different but just because they had been hers to love and raise did not erase the fact that they had a father. He was still a part of them. He had come once and acknowledged them as his sons. It was what she said last that confused him the most, his brow knit tightly together. "What do you mean, Momma? I don't understand." Protect you from those he could not control? He did not understand. Why they would need such protection? He knew so little about the clan his father lead. He had heard a few rumors, but he wished to not believe them.
