the deeper the sorrow

No amount of sunlight could cheer up the Dreamers from the results of the savage war. They still held some members captive, and each day was spent looking across a shoulder, or in pairs to watch one another's back. When Giselle ached to hear of that friendly boy, Gotham, taken from the savages, the ivory woman soon became afraid to leave the Mansion altogether. The outdoors called, though, with each ray of sunlight that streamed into her room, each bird call in the morning and wolf howl at night. She could take it no longer, and with Tux on her shoulder, she slipped out the back door of the Mansion.

The dark haired girl had to stop and look around her the moment she left the comfortable walls of the building, unable to disguise her concern. A part of her thought she could be caught at any moment, swept off of her feet on the lands she had come to love. But a meek smile crept across her face, a sign that she was glad to be outdoors, and slowly she picked her way to the stables, satchel bouncing against her side in sync to the hair that spilled across her shoulders.

In no time at all, she was greeted by the nickers of horses, of all breeds and coloration. Giselle's worries nearly vanished when the scents of hay and horse mingled, but watched as Tux kept looking back warily. He was just as on edge as she, but after his brave act of chasing a bobcat away, the young woman tried to keep him safer. She shrugged the shoulder he leaned upon, causing him to swing his head around to meet her own. "It's okay, my brave knight," she said, nuzzling him under his chocolate chin.

"We'll be safe here," Giselle said with encouragement, beginning to walk amongst the stalls until she found a young brown colt. She peered over the wooden stall to look at the creature, and gasped with acknowledgement. "Heritage!" She piped up, smiling as she recognized Silvano's horse. Stepping back, she made the short snort that the golden prince had taught her to use, wrinkling her nose as she felt it tickle. Giselle wasn't sure if the young colt was aware of the greeting, but he made a pleasant noise all the same in return, his dark tail flicking. "Oh, it's wonderful to see you!~" Giselle giggled.
