OOC: sorry it’s a wee bit late. Words - 500

The pleasant smell of sweet venison curled into the night like a tangible heavenly color. Jaden watched the meat slowly cook on a makeshift spit he’d built and his mouth watered. Tonight was Mabon, a celebration the man truly didn’t know existed until only a week or so ago, when it had come up in conversation with one of his pack mates. Apparently everyone was celebrating this night, friends and family.

Unfortunately, neither the Shishen nor to his knowledge Verloren, the young wolf he now somewhat guided and cared for, had been invited as friends to any other party. But this didn’t bother Jaden. The last few months had been the most fulfilling he could remember and after he led the pack hunt, he felt he had finally contributed to his wonderful new family. Celebrating with others he didn’t know well now would come later, when there was more trust between them all as Nayru so wished there to be. For now the man was happy to be celebrating and cooking for his newest young friend.

Little lost, as that is what Verloren had asked him to name her, was hard to judge this early in the short time they had spent together. Jaden didn’t doubt her kind and genuine puppy attitude, but beneath all of that play and wish for attention there was surly a young female developing and a unique personality being built. This he knew little to nothing about. But he would learn or try at least. She’d had no one, just like Jaden. The only difference was that she was a still so young. It was unfair that the pup would have to be alone in these early years with no one to teach her the ways of the wolf. So he would help her along, teacher what she needed and more if that is what she wanted. It was a seemingly small task he could do to strengthen the future of Ichika.

Tossing some more crushed sage onto the cooking deer, Jaden’s hungry blue eyes actually wondered from the meat for a few seconds. He watched idly as shadows danced across the broken street and about the suburban area around them. Dirty white houses seemed to inch away in all directions from the light. Vacant windows stood open or shattered and displayed the darkness of their long abandoned rooms which the fire light could not reach and relinquish. Without the light or the mood of the evening or the millions of starts that seemed to glisten over head with the happiness of the night, their little street might have seemed spooky.

“Lost,” Jaden called for the girl. He wasn’t sure where the young one had gotten herself to while he had been busy preparing the meat. “You haven’t gone and gotten yourself lost once more now?” He teased her only slightly and chuckled quietly to himself. “It would be a shame for me to have to take this entirely wonderful deer all to myself…”

Jaden does. "Jaden speaks." Jaden thinks.
