ramble ramble

Cypress felt as useless to his mother now as he had while he had been in Inferni. Days had turned to weeks and the moon continued it cycle and still his mother had not yet been returned to them. He did not know what to do and felt that the sad truth was there wasn't a damn thing he could do to help his mother other than to keep faith. And so he had sat, like a miserable bump on a miserable log, out on the porch of the manor watching the sun as it trailed up and away from the horizon. Wondering if his mother could still see her god and feel his warmth from where the AniWayans kept her.

It was there, on the porch, that Silvano had found him and convinced him to make the trip to Halifax with him. It had seemed they had both been in need of the distraction that the fallen city could offer and the brisk morning air had been perfect for traveling as they made their way to the city. For the journey Cypress had stuck to four legs, not wanting to slow down his companion with his clumsy gait on two. If he would only spend more time in the form Cypress would likely get over his coordination issues, but his clumsiness made him far too self-conscious of the form to use it as his standard.

A nervousness filled the youth as the skeletal towers of the fallen city broke up the horizon. Cypress was beginning to regret coming as the time for him to shift his form to something more useful for scavenging through the human remains neared. Even though no one had yet teased him about clumsiness in his optime form, Cypress only assumed it was because he had kept the secret well. Once Silvano saw it though, Cypress worried he might do just that. He knew he would have teased his brothers for it had he not been the one stuck with such a weakness and so he expected no less in return.

His worries were temporarily forgotten as the wandered into the edges of the city. Cypress had only heard of the wonders that could be found here for this was the first time he had actually come into the city itself. Though he had passed by it on his way to and from Inferni. Blue eyes widened as they took in the multitude of decrepit buildings. Dirty and faded signs marked the streets and some of the buildings that varied in their construction and stages of decay. ”I have no idea.” His voice was tinted with awe, if not a bit overwhelmed. ”What are you looking for again?” Cypress had come along simply because he had nothing better to do. Eyeing an alley with a little bit of cover to shift behind, Cypress trotted over to check it out. ”Hold up a sec, I’m gonna go ahead and just shift here.” He called out as he ducked into the alley. A few minutes later he reemerged, sporting only two legs and sweeping the long, wild crop of dark hair from his eyes with padded fingers, while trying just a little to hard to keep his feet moving fluidly as he walked.
