I'll carry this burden always

She was numb as she walked back towards the den she shared with Giuseppe, she felt not the cold stone against her feet nor the cool air against her face, clutched to her breast was the tiny sick child she had birthed several hours before, wrapped up in a blanket that she carried were his three dead full and half siblings. No tears fell from the Zepar's eyes but inside she was screaming under the weight of her guilt and grief. Once again she had failed at saving her children and keeping them safe, once again they had died because of her. The tiny boy child at her chest made weak noises as he suckled, his breath coming with disturbing noises that she knew were not normal. Her lower lip trembled and her nose twitched as she held back her sadness until she could get inside.

The curtain door brushed aside with the lightest of touches and stepped into the comparatively warmer room with a sigh of unhappiness. On the bed Giuseppe lay, legs splayed and a hand flung over the side of the bed. In his sleep he looked extremely angelic almost like his brother of white who always looked angelic. She didn't want to wake him and be faced with the monster behind the eyes, to feel his anger at her for loosing his daughter and birthing him a weakened son. But before she could decide her son made the choice for her as he detached himself from her breast and made a loud pained squeaking noise.

With a sigh she sat down next to him on the bed, the blanket of dead pups placed lovingly beside of her and shook his shoulder with the pale hand that did not hold their newborn son, a sad frown fixed into place on her muzzle,

"Giuseppe, Giuseppe, wake up, there's something you have to see."
