hurrhurr, octa is a little swamp monstah / +5

Momma had said that they could start going outside on their own now. Of course the two darker boys shrugged it off, as one was a serious meany head, while the other was just a silly whimpy baby. Octavius, in his mind, was the bravest and most well mannered of the triplets. He minded his mother, most times, respected the elders of the pack, most times, and was trying to become more independent! Such a good little wolf boy. Of course, he still got in trouble a lot, as he liked to wander and cause mischief. Like this day, as he wandered through the woods, trying to ignore the biting chill of the wind. He hadn’t told his mother that he was going out, or anyone else, for that matter. Knowing this, he was pretty sure she wouldn’t be very pleased with him.

There was a party going on though, and he was determined to contribute to it, just like the grownups did. So here he was, wandering in the cold, his little feet freezing as he walked through the soft mud and muck. Since he still couldn’t hunt a deer or goat like his mommy could, he’d have to take from the lessons that Naniko had tried to teach them a little while before. Crouching, the white pup dipped his stomach and legs deeper into the mud, masking a lot of his scent and covering a bit of his color. The bright white was a disruption when he walked through the marsh, as he was so visible. Realizing this after a few squirrels and birds chattered at him, he hopped into a mud puddle and rolled around in it. Thoroughly covered from nose to tail, he got up and lay in wait, listening and sniffing for something he might be able to kill and take back.

After ten minutes, the boy was getting antsy and wanted to move. The shivering had stopped as the wind dried the mud on his body and it hardened, aiding in trapping his body heat. Just as he was lifting his paw, a chipmunk popped out of a hole in the ground and skittered out in front of him to get an acorn in the mud. Going still, he took slow breaths and tensed up…then pounced! The little rodent never saw him coming, and his little jaws crunched down on its head before it could get out of the way. Yipping with excitement, he grabbed the dead chipmunk in his mouth and bounded back through the muddy land. Leaves and small water plants stuck to his fur, along with a few tiny frogs and beetles. Back to the caves!

The entrance was no longer hard to find for the little boy, and he was in and navigating the dark halls in no time. The smell of mud and wet dog trailed after him as he moved. Voices came from up ahead, one of the larger rooms. Slowing down, he began to prance happily. Back straight, tail and ears up, paws lifting high off the ground with each little trotted step…he looked like one proud little bugger. Seeing all the grownups in costumes made him giggle around the rodent, until he saw his mother and brothers. They were all dressed up! Why wasn’t he? Growling softly, he pranced closer and dropped the chipmunk at his mother’s feet, sitting back on his haunches and lifting his head so he could look up at her. Mommy…I killeded a mousie for you and the offur growned ups!
