Familial loyalty was not something that was sensible to Myrika. Pride in family? Certainly -- that was acceptable and sensible. But one could not choose the individual members within a family, and while the cohesive group was to be respected, nothing in law or morality stated the individual pieces were, by themselves, innately good. There was no quarter given to those who shared Myrika's blood where suspicion and mistrust were concerned -- especially considering all that Kharma had told her. Myrika really did not think Inferni and these Lykois were all bad -- many were crusty around the edges and a few more were outright sour, but none had harmed Myrika, either.

The word was spoken as a command; Myrika fancied it may very well have been one, considering Halo's elevated status in rank. Even so, there was little formality in the way of submission and dominance here -- Inferni reminded her of Thornloe in this one and only regard. There was no demand for rigid hierarchy and constant respect for one's superiors here, as there was none in Thornloe. Still, she did not think it would be wise to dawdle in the face of this ruddy woman. Halo had shown herself to be volatile at best, and Myrika did not think now was the time to make her wait on anything.

The words were harsh, but Myrika let them roll over her shoulder and drop to the floor behind her, forgetting their acerbity instantly. Her head dipped in a momentary show of respect, lifting once more. Nothing, really. I wanted to see how you are, if you needed anything, the woman said, grinning her kindly smile. Halo's belly had grown in immensity; the hybrid woman could not help but look upon it. It seemed to mesmerize, and Myrika found herself strangely anxious and anticipating these children, though she hardly knew their mother or the clan they were to be born into.
