Caspa had made her own long journey; but she'd been esconced in a stable home for months now, and despite her negligible attention to feeding herself, she'd made it up to a healthy weight, even if the flesh would never do more than cling tightly to her bones. Beneath her long, silky coat, even this wasn't much apparent any more. Her eyes scouring down the fenceline as she jog-trotted, keen to spy for gaps, she caught sight of the wolf before she heard or smelt him and the sight was like a blow to the chest. From this distance, and through the chain links - for they were on opposite sides - the white-misting pelt, the darker markings and the ragged appearance - it tore into her eyes like burning acid. She gasped, jaw dropping, hare falling to the ground, and found herself stiff and frozen, immobile with shock. Now she could scent him and knew it was a stranger - but for a moment, she'd been all but certain. Her mother had been patterned like that, and he even had her sulky, downbeat posture as he moved along the wire. For a second, her eyes had seen not what was before them, but what her memory had assumed, and Little Alessica had been approaching her daughter, a wolf left far behind over a year before.
The half-breed scowled, irritated by her strong reaction to the mistake. It was not the time for gnawing at old wounds - there were enough new ones around, of the physical variety... most of them on the body of this stranger male. Caspa watched him for a moment while thinking what to do, then hailed him with a short woof. If he'd seen her frown, he might jump to his own conclusions about her, and she didn't want to foster any new enmities in this area if she could help it. "Caspa. Who are you?"
