A bad month is more like it. He corrected, disgruntled, his voice and eyes low. He was relieved to hear her imminent lack of sympathy, unwilling to diverge his life story all over again. The pain was still fresh, even if his wounds were healing. He disguised a querying sniff by lifting his muzzle in the opposite direction, pretending to stare absently into the distance. Part dog, part wolf, all…His brows furrowed. In a way her scent was much like the coywolf’s. It was beginning to bother him- not that he didn’t have his reasons to be bothered already. His eyes shifted to the hare again, he almost whined…almost. Instead, his eyes scanned the fence line and the forest within, nothing in sight. He licked his lips.
He forced himself to put the hunger aside, remembering what he’d promised himself. He’d promised himself he’d behave differently. He’d have to be polite, even gracious. This was not home, and he was very much on his own now. Dog! He called, forcing himself to look at her. He flung his head downwards and squinted his eyes hard, before shaking his head. That had been rude. Uhh…Caspa! He corrected himself, flattening his ears, and peering at her sheepishly from under his lashes. His cheeks grew heated. He didn’t want to complete his question, but forced himself to so she wouldn’t have the chance to be angry with him. H-how did you get to the other side? He said reluctantly, finishing the sentence off through his teeth. He’d never appreciated the fence more than he did now. He looked at it now, then looked discreetly at her. His tail flicked in agitation. What was he thinking? His belly rumbled…oh- -that. He gazed sullenly at the barbed wire. This was just not his day…
