There had been a nagging need that Ezekiel knew was one unable to be fulfilled during this season. Myrika had confirmed this, and he wondered if the wildcats that had killed the ravens had done the same to whatever remained in the human-place. That was not to say that the ravens had been eliminated; Ibsen was proof enough of that. He was a massive thing now, and proudly going on about how he fully intended to throw his weight around when spring came. Ezekiel was glad for this; it meant he did not brood on the loss of Zola.

It had taken him several days to work up to this path. He had spoken, in so many words, to the horses about his plan. Rook was excited, well-aware he would have little chance against a massive stallion like Viggo. His mother was slightly hesitant, but she too had recognized that the lead-stallion was one she wished to mate with. Ezekiel took Oblak along for the trip, based entirely on the fact that unlike his stallion she would be better prepared for their return—however many animals he could get would be noisy and likely need some sort of contraption to hold them.

The road was a long one, but he traveled quickly. The horses made good time cutting around the coast (though he had to swing wide around the new pack) and cut his time down dramatically. With the colt fidgeting behind his mother, the Aquila drew near the border. He had learned of their ownership of birds from the gruff and frightening Arbiter that brought him the horses, and desired them greatly. A loud, coyote-call rose from his mouth. He turned back to the colt and leaned over, ruffling his thick forelock. “Maybe you’ll have some better luck here, Rook.”
