He had slipped away, past the border tree, and out into Ethreal Eclipse. He was tired of being watched, tired of being good all the time. He was always tense, always irritable. Even Jerome, who came around occasionally to check on the horses, was wary of him and his short temper. He didn't plan on going too far, just an hour or two from the pack. If asked, he'd claim he was hunting. Hell, maybe he'd even find some prey to take back to the pack. Right now, though, he just wanted to wander, to be away from the questioning eyes, from his step mother's concerned looks, from his father's wary eyes.
The butterflies whispered to him, silken whispers that teased the ears. He was tired of the headaches and fevers that came form ignoring them. A short distance away, a shadow was watching him, it's coal black eyes burning his soul. He lifted his lips, snarling at it. He'd tried to ignore them all too long. Everyone was wrong. They existed and they needed to be heeded. The male snarled at the shadow wolf, his hackles raised, and charged it, his claws out. His shoulder struck a tree, and he attacked the tree as if it were his enemy, as if it were keeping him from reaching the shadow wolf.
The male blacked out.
As he woke up, the sun was rising. He sat up, his body stiff. His ears flickered, listening to the birds, listening to the dry whispers of the butterflies. "Soon. Someday soon. His voice was a soft mutter, meant for no one in particular.
