It was getting cold. Colder, perhaps, since it had been chilly for the past month. Tedros Talik had returned to Inferni lands once again, and the winters were just as cold as he remembered. The wind blew through his coat, the coyote feeling the warmth of the longer fur of his halfling form. He did not typically use his halfling form unless he was traveling, but today just seemed like a four-legged day.
The woods were not far from Inferni. He was glad that they were so close, since they seemed to be his favorite haunt (second only to Anathema, where he could find Alaki, if he was lucky). Tedros traveled without his weapon, useless to him without two hands to wield it. He was not concerned though; the Dampwoods did not feel violent today. There was a calm about the area, and as he walked along the shallow stream, he felt at peace.
He smelled a woman, not too far off. The six-year-old could tell that she was older, her scent filled with time. Immediately he was curious. It had been far too long since he’d met someone his own age – or older, perhaps – and the wag of his tail showed his excitement. He moved closer and closer to her scent until the graying wolf appeared before his eyes. He smiled kindly and called out to her in a soft yip. He didn’t wish to startle her. She was thin, perhaps a little malnourished, and she looked her age. But Tedros certainly did not judge. He wanted to say something, but realized that he really had no idea why he was even talking to this lady. What could he say? Hi, you’re old like me! That certainly wasn’t an option. But why else was he talking to her? He sighed, and forced out a few words. “I swear the winters feel colder every year.”
