The dog's thick fur prevented Kiara from drawing a lot of blood, but her crushing bite still did some damage. Kiara was panicked and so was Amy. Kiara held fast onto Amy's neck, but the blood loss was getting to her making the world start to pitch and turn.
Again the horrible instrument plunged into Kiara's flesh. This time the knife landed on her shoulder, almost exactly where her old scar was. By now Kiara was barely registering the pain, but she heard a howl. The voice sounded so hurt, so sad, so desperate. The call was for help, for something or someone to stop the torture. It took a minute for Kiara to realize that the call was hers. Her voice echoed again as Amy bit into her neck. The world swirled, turning black for a second.
When Kiara woke up, only a few seconds later, she could still feel Amy's teeth in her open wound and Amy's dagger in her shoulder. All the fight had left Kiara. She felt weak, helpless. The snow wolf curled up into a ball, she had given up.
